SOUTH AFRICAN QUALIFICATIONS AUTHORITY (SAQA)

INVITATION TO COMMENT:

REQUEST FOR PUBLIC COMMENT ON SAQA’S INTENTION TO REGISTER PROFESSIONAL
                                                     DESIGNATIONS

In accordance with the National Qualifications Framework Act, 2008 (Act No. 67 of 2008) and the South
               African Qualifications Authority’s (SAQA) Policy and Criteria for Recognising a Professional  Body  and
               Registering a Professional  Designation for the Purposes of the  National Qualifications Framework Act,
               Act 67 of 2008 (As amended, September 2020) referred to as the P&C for professional bodies, SAQA invites
               comment from interested parties on the following application received to register additional professional
               designations.

1.  Registration of Additional Designations
               The public is invited to comment on SAQA’s intention to register additional designations for the Professional
               Body listed below:

1.1    South African Institute of Taxation (SAIT)
                      Five additional professional designation titles
                      (a) Customs Compliance Practitioner
                      (b) General Customs and Trade Practitioner
                      (c) Master Customs and Trade Practitioner
                      (d) Tax Accounting Compiler
                      (e) Tax Accounting Officer

1.2    South African Association of Health and Skincare Professionals (SAAHSP)
                      One additional professional designation title
                      (a)  Advanced Aesthetic Therapist

The  detailed  SAIT  and  SAAHSP  applications,  seeking  registration of  its  additional  professional
               designations, is available on the SAQA website at saqa.org.za.

Public comments regarding the above must reach SAQA no later than 30 days after publication of this
               Notice. All  correspondence must  be  addressed to  Mr  JHA  Nel,  Senior  Manager:  Registration and
               Recognition at e-mail addresses: jnel@saqa.co.za / kmadue@saqa.co.za.

2.   Withdrawal of recognition of a recognised Professional Body
               In  accordance with  the  National  Qualifications Framework  Act, 2008  (Act  No. 67  of 2008)  and in
               accordance with Clause 22. a. of the P&C for professional bodies, SAQA may withdraw the recognition
               status from a professional body if the body no longer complies with the P&C for professional bodies.

The South African Chemical Institute (SACI), a non-statutory professional body, was recognised by SAQA
               with effect from 18 November 2015.

On 18 June 2021, SAQA received a request from SACI to withdraw its recognition status and de-register
               its designation from the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).
